SHHH PENINSULA
Self Help for Hard of Hearing People
827 Mohican Way
Redwood City, CA 94062

Supplier Name and Address

Date

Dear Supplier,

The San Mateo County Peninsula chapter of Self Help for the Hard of Hearing people (SHHH) has developed a program to make its membership and the hard of hearing community aware of the many advantages of assistive listening devices. We need your help and we hope to be helping you in return. This program can grow community by community in SHHH chapters to eventually become nationwide.

We are presenting to the local libraries a program that allows hard of hearing residents to try various assistive listening equipment. This is a much-needed service, as doctors, audiologists and hearing aid dealers do not adequately promote the use of hearing assistive equipment. They simply do not have the time.

Our visitors fill out a questionnaire letting us know where they are having trouble hearing. We help them find which equipment can best satisfy their needs. In our test project their response was even greater than we anticipated. All the participants found they could improve their hearing and benefit from the use of the equipment. Once they have been able to experience enhanced hearing using your equipment, we will give them one of your catalogs so they will be able to contact you or your sales representative (retailers) directly to purchase the items they choose.
Here is an example of the effect of adding these devices. A man had a stroke and was left with a profound hearing loss. His ability to communicate was almost gone. All of this was devastating to a man with a Ph.D., who had been used to being a productive member of society. When he was fitted for two $3000 hearing aids, he was not told about any devices that would make them more effective, about SHHH, or even about captioning on the TV. He slipped into a depression, as would most of us if we were to have a sudden and very dramatic disability thrust upon us. With a few simple inexpensive devices, that all together cost less than $300, Al is a productive human being again.

Our goal is to educate hard of hearing people so they can help themselves. We would like to have each city keep the name Rocky Stone alive by following our lead in naming their project Rocky Stone Hearing Device Exhibit, Redwood City (or the name of their city.)

Our plan is to generate a great deal of publicity via newspaper articles, appearances on local TV stations, presentations to city councils, hospital board, county commissions, service clubs, etc. The success of this pilot project we hope will expand to surrounding counties. We will make our equipment mobile so other cities in the area will be able to borrow it.

Here is where we need your help. We are asking you to donate or loan to us the equipment that you feel best represents your company. Your valuable assistance will achieve two purposes. First, it will help improve the bottom line profits of 'Name of the Company' when all these people start buying from you. Second, it will help meet the self-help goals of SHHH.

We have included a list of the devices we would like to use. Please look over the list and give us help with any items you are willing to donate or reduce in price. Please add any item you think we should have in our inventory.

We will be calling you to discuss this in greater detail.

Sincerely,

Raegene Castle
