Topic: Fired from job for hearing loss
Hello, I am in need of help and or information - I was fired from my job for hearing loss. I was employed by my company for 1 yearshen they sent me to be tested for hearing loss, they promised me that they would pay for aides and or whatever I needed to help with my hearing g loss. I went for my evaluation and reported my level and hearing loss (which is severe) and advised them that beltone said I would benefit from hearing aides!! As one can imagine I was over the moon, I was going to hear nearly completely again - I had been withouth hearing for 8 years. Although my hearing loss had NOT affected my job (I was one of the top sales executives in my company) I worked mainly from the phone or at our workshop which was a loud atmosphere with face to face conversations. They continually pestered me regarding my hearing loss, questioning my almost daily if it was affecting
My calls. I was fired 2 weeks after my hearing evaluation, the woman at beltone advised me that this was a blattant case of discrimination. However at the time I was severely depressed, broke, and didn't know where to take my case.
I want to make sure this doesn't ever happen to another person - does anyone know of an attorney or resources I can take this to, keep in mind I have little
money, I am on unemployment benefits from my termination.
Sincerely, Angela Richardson
