Topic: free or open source software for adjusting digital aids?

I have owned a pair of oticon digital aids for some time now. As an experienced user I would like more control of my settings without having to go to the audiologist each time I need adjustment. Does anyone know how I can go about getting the software and connections needed to do this at home by myself? I have heard about americahears here and elsewhere, but am not ready to buy new aids yet.

You might contact Curtis Dickinson - hearmeco@earthlink.net - He's part of a group doing exactly that and has a lot of software and some sources for the hardware. I think that email address is still good. But let me know if it's not and I'll track down his current email.

Good luck!

You may also want to consider HearSource.  I have worn their open ear hearing aids for a little less than one year now and absolutely love them.  I was like you in my thinking that I could adjust my aids better than someone else.  I was right.  Good Luck.

Hello Normandy.  I have just purchased a set of hearing aids from HearSource, and so far... I love 'em!  They are so new to me that I haven't even figured out the software as yet, but I'm getting close. Doesn't seem too difficult but I don't want to mess up the setting that the audiologist pre-installed so I've been holding back.

The pre-installed settings are pretty close to what I want, but there are a couple of fine tuning adjustments I want to make. How long did it take you to get your aids dialed in the way you like? Any special tips or tricks that you discovered along the way that you could share with a newbie? I wore 'in-the-canal' aids for 10 years but finally wanted to upgrade to a stronger device (BTE) with more options. Man... I love those options!!

Please feel free to contact me via my throw-away e-mail addy, and I'll give you a real one to use for discussions should you feel that this isn't the place for them. Thanks!  smile
