Topic: Latest breakthrough

A breakthrough has just been made in the search for cure for hearing loss. Researchers at the University of Sheffield have recently found that using stem cells can treat hearing loss. The scientists first isolated human stem cells and later made them into cells that function like sensory hair cells or auditory neurons.

Most hearing loss problems result from the damage of cells that detect sounds. But with this latest development, it can possible to restore a person’s hearing using the stem cells. The researchers themselves are optimistic about the development of technologies that can treat deafness in the future.

How soon will they try this on humans?  I'm 33 and I have hearing loss @ 90 to 100 db but wear hearing aid since I was 2.  I appreciate music and would love to be able to hear better.

Re: Latest breakthrough

BTW, I had spinal mengingitis @ 18 months n it was how I lost some hearing.
