Filing Comments with the FCC

The FCC seems to change the procedures for filing comments more often than we would like, so we can't guarantee that what follows is the latest and greatest. If you discover that something on this page is incorrect, please email info@hearinglossweb.com with the appropriate information, so we can get it corrected ASAP.

Here's the gateway to the Electronic Comment Filing System, where you will find a wealth of information about the system, including a link to the users manual and a link to the page that allows you to submit a filing.

Once you're on the page that allows you to submit a filing, you'll need to enter a proceeding number and your personal information. (Note that only some of this information is required, and it is clearly labeled.) Here are the current proceedings of primary interest to the hearing loss community.

Current Proceedings

Mandating Captioned Telephone Relay Service and Authorizing IP Captioned Telephone Relay Service

Proceeding Number:  03-123

Public Notice: http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-05-2961A1.doc

The comment page gives you two ways to file a comment. Note that there are two different boxes, one for each method.

If you want to submit a fairly long document, your best bet is to write it beforehand and save it on your computer. Then use the "Browse" button in the upper box to select the file, indicate what kind of file it is, and click the "Send Attached File to FCC" Button.

The second option is to compose your comment right on the comment page. To do so, use the lower box. This method works best for relatively brief comments!
