Sprint IP Wireless Relay for BlackBerry Devices
September 2006
Editor: The growth of the various relay flavors in the past few years has
been nothing short of remarkable. Now Sprint is launching their IP Wireless
Relay service, which allows people to make relay calls from their BlackBerry
devices! Here's the press release.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sprint today announced the full-scale launch of Sprint IP Wireless Relay,
a new Sprint service that allows customers who are deaf or hard-of-hearing
or who have a speech disability to use wireless relay services on their
BlackBerry phones (with an operating system 4.0 or higher). This service was
first introduced earlier this year as a beta trial in order to gain and
incorporate feedback from customers and was the first service of its kind
available on Blackberry devices.
Customers can use this service to communicate with any standard or mobile
telephone user in the United States via a free downloadable application at
www.sprintrelay.com/download/. Users simply select a contact from their
address book or enter a phone number with accompanying text instructions to
a Sprint IP Relay Operator. Sprint IP Wireless allows users to have the
mobility to make a relay call when they need to without a TTY or computer
and can be assured the connection is with an experienced Sprint Relay
operator.
"Sprint is a leader in providing relay services and we're continuing that
tradition by being the first to launch this service for Blackberry
customers," said Mike Ligas, director of Sprint Relay. "The application is
very flexible and extremely easy to use, giving the customer a number of
convenient and customizable ways to personalize their conversations."
Customers are able to edit and save their conversations and store a
number of personal preferences, including fonts, operator gender, language
preference (English or Spanish) and conversation window option.
Sprint IP Wireless is available on Blackberry devices that operate on the
Sprint Nationwide PCS Network and Nextel National Network, as well as any
wireless network that supports Blackberry devices with OS 4.0 or higher.
