World Federation of the Deaf
- The
World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) was establish in 1951 during the
first World Congress in Rome, Italy. WFD is an international,
non-governmental, central organisation comprising national
associations of Deaf people. With a membership in 123 countries, WFD
represents approximately 70 million Deaf people worldwide.
At
present in WFD work, emphasis is placed on the following areas:
-Improve
the status of national sign languages
-Better
education for Deaf people
-Improve
access to information and services
-Improve
human rights for Deaf people in developing countries
The World
Federation of the Deaf holds a World Congress every four years. The next
World Congress will be held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada from July 18 to
