Cochlear Announces CI Products for Kids
Editor: Most of my hearing loss experience is with adults, so I don't
know a lot about how to make it easier for kids to wear CIs. But the CI
manufacturers do! And Cochlear has released some new products with this
goal.

July 2007
Cochlear Americas today announced the availability of three new
pediatric solutions designed to enhance the hearing experience of
Cochlear's youngest implant users. Babyworn(TM) Accessory Pack +
Babyworn(TM) Cable, Freedom Snugfit(TM), and the BTE Tamper-Resistant
Battery Holder and Removal Tool provide babies, toddlers and children
unsurpassed comfort, security and freedom.
"The new accessories are unique in that they have been developed
especially for our smallest recipients. Numerous safety features and soft,
light-weight materials help deliver a comfortable, uninterrupted hearing
experience for these young cochlear implant users," said Chris Smith,
President, Cochlear Americas. "Moreover, these accessories have been
designed to grow with the user and are meant for long-lasting wear."
Babyworn(TM) Accessory Pack + Babyworn(TM) Cable
The Babyworn(TM) Accessory Pack + Babyworn(TM) Cable is a dedicated
baby wearing solution that addresses retention and comfort issues normally
associated with such products. Babyworn is the best pediatric offering for
children of all ages as it allows the recipient to grow into his or her
Freedom system. Babyworn is ideal for children with small ears as it
reduces the (BTE) size and weight. Babyworn provides two flexible wearing
options: a single controller-standard BTE configuration and an upper body
configuration.
The Freedom Snugfit
The Freedom Snugfit helps children to keep processors and microphones
in the most natural position on the ear. Consisting of an upper ear hook,
main body and lower ear hook, Snugfit keeps the sound processor in place,
providing parents and caregivers confidence their child is receiving an
optimal, uninterrupted hearing experience. Snugfit's adjustable upper and
lower ear hooks ensure this optimal fit, while soft, durable unit material
provides all-day comfort. The lower hook on the Snugfit comes in beige,
brown and black to match the wearer's skin and be less conspicuous. The
Snugfit will be included as part of the pediatric option bundle.
Behind the Ear (BTE) Tamper-Resistant Battery Holder
The design of the BTE Tamper-Resistant Battery Holder makes it more
difficult for young children to access, remove or lose batteries. It is
available in two sizes so that both BTE and Freedom Mini BTE recipients
are able to use the product. A key ring pulling tool is also provided to
enable easy removal by parents and caregivers.
All accessories are available for purchase online or by calling 1 (800)
523-5798 (Voice and TDD) Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Mountain Time.
