Hansaton AQ Introduces Rechargeable Battery Technology
April 2010
Editor: We've been hearing that rechargeable hearing aid batteries will
debut soon for some time now, and it looks like it's finally happened. The
bad news is that you have to buy a particular hearing aid to get them. But
this is, as far as I know, the first time they've been commercially
available, and I'm betting that you'll be able to buy just the batteries
before too long!
Here's the press release from Hansaton.

Hansaton USA announces the AQ In-The-Ear hearing system, with patented
rechargeable battery technology. The AQ hearing systems are conveniently
recharged overnight in a custom charging station, eliminating the need for
cumbersome battery changes and tiny operating controls.
The AQ from Hansaton uses a patented smart inductive charging station,
which overcomes the issues that have kept rechargeable hearing systems out
of the mainstream of hearing care for years. The sealed battery
compartment reduces moisture ingress, extending the life of the hearing
system. The AQ In-The-Ear hearing systems have an operating time of more
than 20 hours and take between two and four hours to recharge. The battery
is guaranteed for five years.
"AQ means we finally have hearing technology that frees customers from
worrying about their hearing aid battery failing. For hearing aid wearers,
this is a major advancement," said Jerry Yanz, Director of Audiology for
Hansaton USA. "Not only does the AQ provide all of the advanced processing
we expect in a top-of-the-line hearing system, its rechargeable battery
technology means that those capabilities are available to the wearer 100%
of the time." Yanz added that AQ hearing systems offer an expanded
bandwidth, along with wireless binaural synchronization and Bluetooth
connectivity.
The AQ In-The-Ear-hearing systems are available as Canal or Concha
models and are suitable for mild to severe hearing loss. Hansaton also
gives a life-long rechargeable battery guarantee for all AQ in-the-ear
hearing systems.
"With the AQ, there is no sacrifice of form for function," said Bob
Eastman, CEO and President of Hansaton USA. "HiFi Sound, Active Feedback
Block and the Situation Optimizer, which lets the wearer concentrate on
just one sound source, are all standard with the AQ. Along with its
technological sophistication, the AQ's unique Legance faceplate creates an
aesthetic appeal that leads the field of custom hearing systems."
