Unitron Introduces New Features in CROS/BiCROS Products
May 2010
Editor: For those not familiar with the terminology CROS/BiCROS, it
refers to a treatment for people with one unaidable ear. The strategy is to
have a microphone pick up the sound that the unaidable ear would normally
receive and send that signal wirelessly to the other ear for processing. It
generally makes sounds on the unaidable side much more accessible.

Unitron today announced the availability of Tandem(tm), a welcome
advancement in the CROS/BiCROS category. Tandem builds upon Unitron's
established market leadership in CROS/BiCROS, offering an
all-in-one-wireless system with the choice of two technology levels,
improved sound quality and a wide array of best-in-class features that help
address the limitations commonly associated with having no useable hearing
in one ear.
Help for clients with an unaidable ear
People living with no useable hearing in one ear face many distinct
challenges, including a lack of awareness of their name being called,
difficulty following conversations and missed warning signals, such as those
experienced in busy traffic. Tandem picks up sounds originating from the
poor ear side and transfers them to the better ear to hear. If the better
ear also has some hearing loss, Tandem can help individuals hear more of
what is happening on that side as well. Tandem helps people manage the
issues associated with this type of hearing loss, opening up opportunities
to participate more fully in life.
Best-in-class features meet needs across listening environments
Built upon Unitron's next generation digital platform, Tandem offers
comfortable, clear sound quality and effective features that address
listening needs across a wide variety of situations. Tandem 16 is the first
BiCROS system on the market to offer the superior performance of an
automatic program, with autoPro(tm)3 seamlessly changing hearing instrument
parameters to meet client needs as they move throughout their day.
Five different microphone strategies improve satisfaction in specific
situations, while a range of proven features-antiShock(tm), noise reduction,
speech enhancement LD, and a sophisticated feedback management system-make
listening as comfortable and natural as possible.
A high priority on fitting success
Tandem software tools are easy to use, promoting smoother fittings and
higher client acceptance. From on-screen help providing guidance at every
step, to unique transmission optimization and BiCROS balance features, to
instant fits with slim tubes, Tandem fittings are devised to be quick and
comfortable.
Setting the pace for CROS/BiCROS advancements
"Tandem further strengthens our commitment to the CROS/BiCROS space,
setting a new benchmark with improved sound quality and best-in-class
features that help to effectively manage the unique challenges associated
with this type of hearing loss," states Cameron Hay, President and CEO of
Unitron worldwide.
Tandem will be available beginning in July 2010. Please contact your
